Campaign Introduction
For centuries, the Dwarven City of Dor-Toril lay under a dark spell. The Soulforge, a holy relic of Moradin, had been hewn and its heart corrupted. The resulting curse had corrupted the hearts of its dwarves as well, transforming their bodies into those of dark dwarves.
Forty years ago, the dwarven King Dungar of Thur-Agrim, sent his son, Prince Hamilcar, deep into the earth to free the city from its spell. Hamilcar, along with the gnomish wizard Ellywick Waywocket, the exiled Prince Caserus of Arranon, and Jinn of the Shadowlings were able heal the Soulforge. The dark dwarves were transformed back into true dwarves once more and the city was free again.
Since that time, Dor-Toril has enjoyed a golden age lasting nearly four decades under their new King Hamilcar. But far above, on the surface world, the seven Winter Kings have fallen under the might of the Demon Lord Orcus. And while the dwarves thrived safely beneath the earth, Orcus’ power grew, until even the kingdom of Hamilcar’s father, Thur-Agrim, was conquered by the Prince of the Dead’s power.
For years, Dor-Toril has endured as a safe haven against the forces of Orcus, until six years ago. King Hamilcar presented his wife with a magnificent ring like no other, but when she placed it upon her finger, the stone grew dark and the Queen fell into a death-like sleep.
King Hamilcar, obsessed with waking his Queen, has begun to neglect his kingdom. The King’s Council has begun to bicker amongst each other. Crime has risen within the city. And now even demi-human races are allowed through the Barakur Gate to trade and do business in Dor-Toril. All the while, the king focuses solely on building a massive monument, the Dayspire, which he hopes will please the gods enough to restore his fallen Queen.
