HYPERION Real Name: Mark Milton Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Super Strength, Flight, Atomic Vision
Hyperion is a superhuman being of unknown origin, who lives on the Earth of his alternate dimension, which is sometimes designated as "Other-Earth" or "Earth-S." He found and adopted by a kindly couple, the Miltons, who instilled in Hyperion, whom they named Mark, a strong love of traditional American values and a passion for justice. Mark proved to have vast superhuman powers, which the Miltons encouraged him to use for the good of humanity. However, they cautioned him not to use his powers to change the course of human history, for they believed that humanity must ultimately solve its own problems.
As in adult Mark Milton worked as a newspaper cartoonist in the city of Cosmopolis. He assumed the costumed and masked identity of Hyperion (taking the name from the Titan in Greek mythology who was associated with the sun) in order to use his superhuman powers to fight crime and to help save lives. Hyperion's greatest enemy was the criminal scientist Emil Burbank, who assumed the costumed persona of Master Menace.
Hyperion became a founding member of the Squadron Supreme, an organization of costumed champions; most of who possessed superhuman powers. His best friend in the team was Nighthawk, who was actually multi-millionaire Kyle Richmond. Acclaimed as the greatest hero of his world, Hyperion acted as leader of the Squadron.
Hyperion was present when the Muir Island New Mutants travelled to Area 51 to free young mutants captured by Freedom Force.
Strength Level: Hyperion possesses superhuman strength that enables him to lift (press) approximately 75 tons.
Known Superhuman Powers: Hyperion possesses a host of superhuman powers. Hyperion can levitate himself by mentally manipulating gravitons (subatomic particles carrying the force of gravitational attraction between atoms) around himself.
Formerly, through concentration, Hyperion could project beams of discrete energies from his brain (generated by the quasinuclear reactions in his body) through the optic nerves of his eyes. This atomic vision or nuclear vision was capable of generating radioactivity in the X-ray range of the electromagnetic spectrum. His atomic vision could also generate heat, with a maximum power output of approximately 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on the spread of the beam, in the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Ordinarily, Hyperion's atomic vision did not harm his own eyes when he projected it.
Limitations: Hyperion's principal weakness is an isotope of lead vaslled argonite whose particles of decay serve to damper the quasi-nuclear reactions in his body. While in itself it cannot kill him, it can render him susceptible to other forms of injury. Nighthawk once planned to assassinate Hyperion using a bullet made of argonite. Presumably its presence would weaken Hyperion enough so that the bullet could penetrate his body.

POWER PRINCESS Real Name: Zarda Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Super Strength, Flight, Enchanced Senses
Princess Zarda hailed from the denizens of Utopia Island that were very peaceful and took on the name of Utopians after building what they considered a perfect society free of poverty, injustice, sexual discrimination, war, and crime. They had been experimented upon by the Kree to be powerful beings and normally isolated themselves from humanity. One day, Zarda encountered a shipwrecked sailor named Howard Sheldon. Recovering, he explained to her that he was an American sailor and told her about World War II, which was occurring around at that time. Subsequently, Zarda joined the Golden Agency to help the Allies, where she met Blue Eagle and Professor Imam.
The development of atomic weapons during the war frightened the Utopians, so they decided to leave Earth by converting their city into a starship. Zarda chose to remain on Earth and vowed that she would be an ambassador and spread their ideals. Humanity was less than receptive, but accepted her as a superheroine. She joined Hyperion, Amphibian, Whizzer, Nighthawk, Doctor Spectrum, and Skymax in the Squadron Supreme.
Power Princess was present when the Muir Island New Mutants travelled to Area 51 to free young mutants captured by Freedom Force.

DOCTOR SPECTRUM Real Name: Joseph "Joe" Ledger Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Possessor of the Power Prism
Joseph Ledger is a native of the alternate Earth on which the organization of superhuman champions known as the Squadron Supreme arose. Ledger became an astronaut for the Notional Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
While on a mission in outer space, Ledger encountered a disabled alien spacecraft and rescued its sole occupant, a member of the Skrull race, bringing him back to Earth with him. In gratitude, the Skrull presented Ledger with a crystal that Ledger called the power prism. Using the power prism, which granted him great powers, Ledger became the masked costumed champion known as Doctor Spectrum. As Doctor Spectrum, Ledger had a highly successful career as a crimefighter, battling such menaces as Quagmire. Eventually, Doctor Spectrum and the Skrull he had befriended (who become a crimefighter on Earth known simply as "the Skrull") became founding members of the Squadron Supreme. Doctor Spectrum became a close friend of two other Squadron members, the Golden Archer and the Whizzer.
Previously, Doctor Spectrum possessed no actual superhuman powers. However, he owned an alien "power prism" of unknown origin which was given to him by a member of the Skrull race
This crystalline object responded to Doctor Spectrum's thoughts and could perform various feats at his mental command. Hence, Doctor Spectrum could command it to levitate him and project him through the air at great speed, thus enabling him to fly. At Doctor Spectrum's mental command, the prism would emit powerful concussive energy blasts, light, heat, and other forms of radiation. At Doctor Spectrum's mental directions, the prism could also form objects composed of an unknown form of energy that would function according to Doctor Spectrum's will. These objects could become solid, as if they were made of matter, if Doctor Spectrum so willed.
It is not known whether or not the power prism would respond to the will of anyone other than Doctor Spectrum. It is known that Doctor Spectrum could mentally control the prism even if he was not physically in contact with it, but it is not known if there was a limit to the distance over which Spectrum could be separated from the prism and yet still retain control over it.
Doctor Spectrum was present when the Muir Island New Mutants travelled to Area 51 to free young mutants captured by Freedom Force.

WHIZZER Real Name: Stanley Stewart Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Super-Speed
A native of the Earth of another dimension, Stanley Stewart gained the ability to move at superhuman speeds from passing through a fogbank of unknown nature. He became a costumed crimefighter under the name of the Whizzer and became a founding member of the Squadron Supreme, an organization of superhuman champions.
Strength Level: The Whizzer possesses superhuman strength primarily in his lower body as part of his body's adaptations for running. With upper body he can lift slightly more than a normal human being of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise The Whizzer can leg press approximately 1500 pounds under optimal conditions.
Known Superhuman Powers: The Whizzer possesses the capacity to move at superhuman rates of speed. The Whizzer can run speeds of up to 175 miles per hour for up to an hour before fatigue impairs his performance.
The Whizzer's entire body is adapted towards the rigors of high-speed running. His cardiovascular and respiratory systems are many times more efficient than a normal human being's, and are able to function at rates of eight to ten times that of a normal person's. His metabolism is such that he can make use of an estimated 95% of the caloric energy content of foodstuffs (normal human use is about 25%). The chemical processes of the Whizzer's musculature are centered around high energy reactions that are greater than a normal human being's by a factor of 25. His joints are smoother and lubricated more efficiently. His tendons (where much energy is stored during the act of running) have the tensile strength of spring steel. His bones contain unknown materials significantly more durable than calcium to withstand the dynamic shocks of his feet touching the ground at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The Whizzer's practical reaction time is about five times faster than a normal human being's, and the speed at which his brain processes information is heightened to a level commensurate with his bodily speed, enabling him to perceive his surroundings while traveling at high velocities. The Whizzer's lachrymose is more viscous than a normal person's, thus preventing rapid evaporation and replenishment of surface fluids on his eyes under the influence of high wind velocity to occlude his vision.
The Whizzer's body is highly resistant to the adverse effects of air friction from moving at superhuman speed. It is not clear why this should be so, but it has been theorized that when moving at superhuman velocities, the Whizzer's body generates a force field that helps to protect him from friction. The field, however, is not strong enough to protect him from injury from being struck by a solid object.
Limitations: Unlike the bodies of certain individuals with similar powers to move at superhuman speeds, such as Quicksilver, the Whizzer's body generates fatigue poisons, the normal by-products of locomotion which force the body to rest. As a result, after using his superhuman speed powers extensively during the day, the Whizzer must lie in a deep sleep for approximately eight hours so that his body will gain sufficient rest. The Whizzer must also consume an unusually large amount of food due to the huge amounts of energy that superhumanly fast movement requires.
Paraphernalia: The Whizzer wears goggles to help protect his eyes from the adverse effects of running at superhuman speed.
The Whizzer was present when the Muir Island New Mutants travelled to Area 51 to free young mutants captured by Freedom Force.

THE SHAPE Real Name: Raleigh Lund Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Elongation, Body Mass Control
Little is known of Shape's history before he joined the team of supervillains known as the Institute of Evil. As part of that team, he often clashed with his world's premier superhero team the Squadron Supreme.
Along with the rest of the Institute, Shape was later subjected to the Squadron's behavior modification devices and made to reform. He accepted a place as a member of the Squadron and fitted in well, befriending Arcanna and bonding with her kids, and looking up to Ape X. Probably due to Shape's limited mental capacity, that he was able to get along with children they way that he did.
However, Shape was kidnapped by Nighthawk's Redeemers and forced to have his behavior modification undone. However, for someone developmentally challenged like him, this proved to be a risky process, and one of the other Redeemers, Moonglow, had to use her illusory powers to manipulate him to stay on their side.
When the Redeemers confronted the Squadron and violence broke out, a confused Shape played little part in the battle. When Moonglow was using her powers to keep a heavily pregnant Arcanna immobilized, Shape remonstrated with her. Arcanna used this distraction to escape and to deck Moonglow. As she was going into labor, Arcanna asked Shape to carry her to hospital. As Shape liked Arcanna more than Moonglow, he did so and they both left the battle.
Shape remained with the Squadron after they dismantled the Utopia Program, and with the rest of the team travelled to Earth-616 where they were stranded for a time.
Shape can shift almost all of his bodily mass from one area of his malleable form to another, altering his physical shape at will, and allowing him to stretch and elongate his body. However, his mental impairment means he is not as imaginative at thinking up ways to use his power as he might otherwise be.
Shape was present when the Muir Island New Mutants travelled to Area 51 to free young mutants captured by Freedom Force.

HAYWIRE Real Name: Harold Danforth Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Tanglewire Generation
Little is known of Harold Danforth's history before he was recruited by Nighthawk to serve in his Redeemers to overthrow his former team the Squadron Supreme in protest at their Utopia Project that gave them control over the United States. Haywire infiltrated the Squadron along with several other Redeemers, and bided his time. After being recruited by the Squadron Supreme, Haywire became romantically involved with his fellow recruit Inertia.
After the Squadron Supreme surrendered and dismantled their Utopia Project, Haywire remained a member of the team. He was part of the team when they faced the threat of the Nth Man. Haywire's lover Inertia was killed in the battle and Haywire was distraught. The survivors were transported to another Earth, Earth-616, where they clashed with other heroes like the Avengers.
Haywire had the ability to form nearly unlimited quantities of a steel-like 5mm diameter "tanglewire" filament from his fingertips which he can use to entangle opponents and/or form simple shapes like spheres, cubes, and cones. The tanglewire can be sharp or smooth, according to his will. He could create long grappling wires for movement, or vast quantities for binding opponents. The tanglewire was resistant to extremes of temperature and pressure. The tanglewire would remain in existence indefinitely or until Haywire consciously willed it to dissipate, and would remain in existence even if he was rendered unconscious. There was no known limit to the amount of tanglewire he could generate. He wore padded leather gloves to enable him to hold onto his tanglewire when necessary. The amount of wire used is limitless.

SKYLARK Real Name: Linda Lewis Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Sonic Powers; Mechanical Wings
Linda Lewis was a famous pop-singer before an accident badly injured her vocal cords. They were replaced by Dr. Decibel using experimental bionics. The experiment restored Linda's vocal cords, but when she tried to sing instead she began using hypersonics. Her musical career was over, but she decided to use her new-found abilities as a crimefighter and joined the Squadron Supreme as Lady Lark.
She had an on-again, off-again relationship with the Golden Archer. Lady Lark was behavior modified by the Archer to love him and agree to marry him after she turned down his marriage proposal.[1] After the Squadron learned this, they forced the Archer to leave, although Linda still artificially loved him.[2] She mourned his death when he as the Black Archer was one of the dead after the Squadron and the Redeemers' battle.
Linda later adopted the wings of the deceased Blue Eagle and changed her name to Skylark in honor of her her new flight abilities. When the Squadron faced the threat of the Nth Man, she was transported with the rest of her team to Earth-616.
Using her sonic powers, Linda can project her voice to produce sonic blasts, sonic screams, and to cause vertigo in her opponents.
Skylark was present when the Muir Island New Mutants travelled to Area 51 to free young mutants captured by Freedom Force.

MOONGLOW Real Name: Melissa Hanover Affiliation: The Squadron Supreme Powers: Illusions
Little is known about Melissa Hanover's life before she was recruited by Nighthawk to serve in his team of super-powered Redeemers to fight the influence of his former team the Squadron Supreme's "Utopia Program", which meant they took control of the United States on their alternate Earth.
Hanover has the power to cast convincing, three-dimensional audio-visual-olfactory-tactile illusions by manipulating light and gravity and affecting the perceptions of other beings. She could use this ability to become invisible, to appear to be somewhere other than her actual location, and to disguise her actual appearance for prolonged periods of time, among other feats.
Moonglow often used this ability to pretend she had powers she did not have, such as the ability to fly or control gravity. This was convincing enough to even make someone believe they were actually being pressed to the ground by increased gravity.

ZZZAX Real Name: Zzzax Affiliation: Independent Powers: Electromagnetic Being
Zzzax is an "electromagnetic intelligence," a psionically-charged electromagnetic field which has a humanoid form and which is capable of crude human level intelligence and superhuman strength. Zzzax generally appears as a gargantuan mass of electrical "sparks" in humanoid form. It is highly luminescent, whitish-yellow in color, and gives off the smell of ozone. Zzzax can hover or fly in the air. Zzzax can fire extraordinarily powerful blasts of electricity. Zzzax's tremendously high voltage enables it to incinerate matter which lies in its path. Zzzax's superhuman strength has enabled him to battle the Hulk nearly to a standstill. Zzzax has incinerated whole city blocks in minutes. Zzzax has burned the Hulk's skin to a slight degree. At its most powerful, Zzzax is forty feet tall and carries a voltage of several hundred thousand volts that can be almost totally expended over a twenty minute period.
Zzzax subsists by drawing all available electromagnetic fields into its own. Those electromagnetic fields housed by human brains, when absorbed, add to Zzzax's level of stored psionic energy, making it more intelligent. For an unknown reason Zzzax finds this absorption of electrical/psionic energy from human brains pleasurable, and therefore undertakes the murder of human beings for their psionic energy whenever possible, In absorbing this psionic energy from a human victim, Zzzax will incinerate the victim's body, Zzzax is seemingly unable to absorb psionic energy from its recurring adversary, the Hulk. However, Zzzax can take control of the electrical/psionic impulses in the Hulk's nervous system, and thereby control the activities of the Hulk's muscles.
Zzzax's own thoughts and behavior can be influenced by strong desires on the part of the human beings whose psionic energy it has consumed. However, only in the case of General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross has another being's consciousness supplanted Zzzax's own as the dominant one controlling Zzzax's physical form.
Zzzax was the product of an accident that occurred at a Consolidated Edison nuclear power plant when a group of heavily armed terrorists attempted to shut down the power for New York City. The explosion that their stray gunfire caused started a chain reaction in the atomic reactor, creating a psionically charged electromagnetic field of humanoid form. As the electromagnetic form grew, it incinerated those people who stood in its way, absorbing the electro-psionic fields generated by their brains, and thus acquired a human intelligence. As it began to think and become aware of its surroundings, it developed rudimentary speech and named itself Zzzax in imitation of the electrostatic "crackle" it made when it moved. As it killed more human beings, it grew more intelligent; consequently it began a campaign of murder and destruction in order to increase its intelligence further. Zzzax clashed with both the Hulk and Hawkeye. Zzzax short-circuited and its constituent field dissipated when Hawkeye shot an arrow attached to a long conducting wire through Zzzax into the East River.
Zzzax reformed months later as a result of a mistake in a scientific experiment performed by Soul Star Research, a group of three scientists, Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduates Mark Revel, Stan Landers, and Alexandria Knox, who developed a mechanism that was allegedly capable of collecting and recording the scattered electrical brain waves of any human being who had ever existed. When first used, the machine made contact with an unusually intense field of electro-psionic energy in the upper stratosphere, which was the residue of Zzzax. The collected electrical impulses formed a field of sufficient energy to explode the machine's titanium casing, and Zzzax reformed. Stan Landers was killed by Zzzax as the creature absorbed his electro-psionic energy. As a result of this absorption, Zzzax found itself influenced by Landers' intense love for his colleague Alexandria Knox, and abducted her. Once again Zzzax battled the Hulk. Soul Star's Mark Revel short-circuited and dissipated Zzzax by shooting a sufficient length of copper wire through it from a helicopter and then flying the helicopter, which still held one end of the wire, directly into a thunderstorm in which the helicopter was struck by lightning,
Later, when Stark International constructed a laboratory for Dr. Bruce Banner (who is also the Hulk), the company made the mistake of purchasing a central power core from the now-defunct Soul Star Research. When the generator was hooked up, a sudden surge of electromagnetic discharge brought Zzzax back into existence. The mechanics of this reemergence of Zzzax have never adequately been explained; presumably a portion of Zzzax's electro-psionic field lay dormant in this device which powered Soul Star's previous experiment. After a brief battle the Hulk, who at that point retained Bruce Banner's intelligence when in his superhumanly strong form, ran power cables through Zzzax which were connected to a generator which drew its power from stellar and quasi-stellar sources. The Hulk reversed the generator's polarity, sending Zzzax out into space.
Zzzax reappeared, emerging from high voltage lines connected to a California nuclear power plant. Exactly how Zzzax reformed this time is unknown, but its recreation is probably at least in part the work of Graviton, who sought Zzzax as an ally. On Hawkeye's suggestion Wonder Man uprooted a water main, which the latter then used to fire a torrent of water at Zzzax. Hawkeye then shot an arrow carrying a conducting wire through Zzzax into the water upon which Zzzax was standing. As a result Zzzax was grounded and its field was disrupted.
Somehow Zzzax was imprisoned by S.H.I.E.L.D. soon after Hawkeye and Wonder Man defeated it. S.H.I.E.L.D. kept Zzzax, which was still in humanoid form, confined within a large insulated vacuum tube, and then transferred it into another such tube at Gamma Base, New Mexico. There former General "Thunderbolt" Ross, who was obsessed with a desire to destroy the Hulk, submitted to a S.H.I.E.L.D. experiment to transform him into a superhuman being by infusing some of Zzzax's "living electricity'' into Ross's body. But the experiment went awry, and Ross's psichic energy--his mind, in effect--was absorbed by Zzzax, and Zzzax broke free. But, strangely, Ross's mind, perhaps because of the strength of its hatred for the Hulk, took control of Zzzax, submerging Zzzax's own personality. Meanwhile, Ross's original physical body remained alive, but all of that body's independent thought processes had ceased; only involuntary functions of the nervous system (such as those controlling the heartbeat) continued.
Controlled by Ross's thought patterns, Zzzax tried unsuccessfully to kill both Bruce Banner and Rick Jones, who had recently become a Hulk-like monster himself. Zzzax's own consciousness resurfaced briefly, and fought for dominance of its physical form with the Ross persona, but the Ross consciousness again took control. The Ross persona had apparently become unbalanced by its absorption into Zzzax, and when Banner forced it to recognize that it inhabited a monster's form, the Ross persona was horrified. Still controlled by the Ross consciousness, Zzzax fled.
Zzzax's current whereabouts and activities are unknown. It is not yet known whether Zzzax's own personality and consciousness will reclaim control of its physical form, or whether Ross will ever return to full consciousness in his original human body.
During the U.S. Invasion of Panama, Zzzax was encountered at the Panama City International Airport. The Squadron Supreme was dispatched to deal with him.

VECTOR Real Name: Simon Utrecht Affiliation: The U-Foes Powers: Kinetic Repulsion
Simon Utrecht was a wealthy but unscrupulous businessman who was obsessed with gaining power. Convincing three others, Mike Steel, Ann Darnell and James Darnell, to go up into space in his privately-funded spacecraft to mimic the power and abilities of the Fantastic Four, who had gained their powers from cosmic rays. Utrecht and his crew passed through a cosmic radiation field, but were interrupted by the Hulk before they finished their experiment. They soon crashed back to Earth, much like the Fantastic Four themselves did. Upon seeing themselves after the crash, the quartet viewed themselves as freaks and monsters. Utrecht in particular blamed The Hulk because he believed with further exposure to the cosmic rays, they could have become "gods." The newly-christened U-Foes attacked The Hulk, which began years of hostilities between them.
The U-Foes became professional criminals, and clashed with many heroes including the Avengers.
As a result of cosmic bombardment, Vector's body telekinetically propels matter away from himself. He can fly by using his power against the ground or any other object of greater mass then himself
During the U.S Invasion of Panama, the Muir Island New Mutants were conscripted to server in Freedom Force. They were dispatched to fight the U-Foes in Panama City. Vector's power was unstable and he was absorbed by Joule.
