STAR WARS: DAWN OF DEFIANCE CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND
In the final days of the Clone Wars, all of your characters were involved in the Republic's attempt to retake the planet New Plympto, the homeworld of the Nosaurian species.

New Plympto
Prior to the Clone Wars, New Plympto was welcomed into the Galactic Republic as a source of rikknit eggs, the Nosaurians' chief export. However, they were denied representation in the Galactic Senate and eventually grew alienated. Soon enough, the market for rikknit eggs evaporated and New Plympto was, for all intents and purposes, abandoned by commercial interests.

With the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems recruited New Plympto to their cause with the promise of reviving the rikknit egg market and rebuilding the planet's economy. The Nosaurians felt they had no choice, but to join the Separatists.

In 19 BBY, the Separatists launched a bold attack on the Republic capital of Coruscant and succeeded in capturing Chancellor Palpatine. But the Separatist siege was shortlived. Jedi Knights Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker killed Count Dooku and rescued the chancellor. The separatist General Greivous fled the battle.

The Battle of Coruscant
Hoping to crush General Greivous' forces once-for-all and end the war, the Republic launched a coordinated attack on many Separatist planets, including the Nosaurian planet of New Plympto.
A republic fleet, led by Admiral Gilder Varth commanding the attack cruiser Resolution, successfully destroyed the droid fleet protecting the planet, followed by a planetary assault led by Jedi Master Dass Jennir commanding a battalion of clone troopers.

The team posed as Ji rikknit smugglers who were attempting to secure a supply of the illegal drug for the Tenloss Syndicate. Kuss, a Givin smuggler and scout, often acted as a blockade runner, bringing need goods into Separatist occupied planets. Using his contacts, Kuss was able to slip the team behind Separatist lines.

During the mission, Cross received an injury that damaged his inhibitor chip and would later allow him to disobey Order 66.
The team infiltrated the capital city of Phemiss, where Kull reprogrammed a separatist B2 super battle droid, designated EH-ROR, to assist them in completing the mission.

Sival's team successfully destroyed the Separatist Command Center, allowing General Jennir's forces to move into the capital. However, shortly afterwards, the clone troopers recieved Order 66 and turned on their Jedi commanders. Disobeying the order, Cross defended Sival and her padawan, instead of trying to execute them. Sival held off the advancing clone army, sacrificing herself to allow the remainder of her team to escape the city.
The players took refuge in the Hajial Chase, a stretch of forest four hundred kilometers inland from Phemiss.
starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Hajial_Chase
Realizing they now shared a common enemy, the players befriended Nosaurian refugees who had also escaped into the Hajial Chase. Dass Jennir, who had also escaped Order 66, had fled to Coruscant. Having discovered the destruction of the Jedi Order by the newly-established Galactic Empire, Dass Jennir returned to New Plympto to lead the Nosaurian Separatists against the Imperial forces who had threatened them with retaliation.
The players joined General Jennir in a conflict that lasted for one month, carrying out ambushes on Imperial armored columns and engaging in heavy guerrilla warfare. Eventually, Palpatine sent the 501st Legion to reinforce the troops on New Plympto. There they worked closely with light tank units to put down the revolt.
The Nosaurians' last stand was at the Battle of Half-Axe Pass, where the remnants of their army attempted to cover for their families who were being evacuated off-planet, by holding off the approaching stormtroopers at Half-Axe Pass. Fortifying themselves on the hillside, the Nosaurians held off the troops, using frequent hit and run attacks, until TX-130T fighter tanks arrived and crushed the Nosaurian forces.

After the defeat, the players just barely managed to escape New Plympto aboard a transport belonging to a Nosaurian smuggler named Jombo Farlock.

In Hyperspace, the players learned that the surviving Nosaurian fighters attempted to surrender to the Imperial forces. However, they were summarily executed by the stormtroopers of the 501st. Their families were captured before they could enter the main spaceport and were transported to Orvax IV to be slaves.

The Cleansing of New Plympto
The game will begin five months after Order 66 and very shortly after the fall of New Plympto. Jombo is taking the players to Jonji Station in orbit around Brentaal IV. He's made many smuggling runs to this station. Jombo suggests Jonji Station will be a good place to hide out, while the players decide their next move.

Jonji Station
Jonji Station is one of the many orbital travel and cargo ports that ring the planet of Brentaal IV. It is also one of the seedier ones, and it is minorly popular with a number of nobles of Brentaal who use the station to ship their more discreet cargo. Thus it has less of an Imperial presence than the other stations. Black market dealers, smugglers, gamblers, and other opportunists abound here. Although, there is a small Imperial detachment on the station, it has a reputation as a place one can go to slip quietly between the Inner Core and the Outer Rim. Or to get stuff that is not strictly legal. Or just a good place to hide. Bribes from the nobles keep oversight lax and the nobles like it this way.

Brentaal IV
Brentaal IV, known more commonly as Brentaal, was a planet in the Brentaal system of the Core Worlds's Bormea sector and one that occupied what was arguably the most valuable location in the entire galaxy: the intersection of the Hydian Way and the Perlemian Trade Route, two of the galaxy's major hyperlanes. An arid world with warm and temperate weather, Brentaal featured two large polar caps and an equator marked by deserts and steaming oceans; most of the planet's available land was dominated by warehouses, cargo holding facilities, commerce exchanges, and other trade-related structures. Brentaal's capital of Cormond and its Trade Hall were the seat of power on the planet, with the hundreds of Brentaal Houses—the influential families that ran the planet's trade guilds—represented the citizens in Brentaal's democratic government. The Emperor allows the Houses to run Brentaal mostly as they see fit, because of how critical the planet is as a galactic trade hub. But the nobles are careful to always do the Emperor’s bidding, lest he move in and take matters into his own hands.
Brentaal's society was focused entirely around commerce, with the hundreds of Brentaal Houses controlling the planetary economy and political environment. On Brentaal, politics were a means to advance one's interests in the commercial world, not a way to gain power, and the planet was ruled by a participatory democracy. Representatives of each Brentaal House met daily in the central Trade Hall in Cormond, where they made public policy and coaxed the economy in desired directions. The Houses, which were connected by thousands of intricate alliances and factions, were nearly all organized by family, as the ability to own a controlling stake in a Brentaal guild or House was originally restricted to family members and family-controlled businesses. A complex system involving permits and exchanges of massive numbers of credits later opened access to some foreigners limited access to certain Houses. Houses Kallea, Brentioch and Okeefe, Hall Ju'oda, and the Dajaal Family were among the more successful and influential Houses on Brentaal.
With a population of approximately 65 billion, Brentaal was primarily populated by Humans, as they made up 88% of the planet's inhabitants, and the planet's primary language was Galactic Basic Standard. The popular Brentaalan folkhero was one who fearlessly trail-blazes new hyperspace routes as a spacefaring merchant, and Freia Kallea became a legendary figure in Brentaalan society for doing just that. Many major megacorporations maintained their headquarters on Brentaal, particularly in the capital of Cormond, and the planet also had a very well-regarded cuisine that was the result of thousands of years of interaction with other cultures. The architecture of Brentaal's cities was functional and stark as befitted a culture based on commerce, but as the Brentaalans favored organic-looking architecture, many offworlders considered their buildings to be oddly beautiful. As a result of its position at the junction of the Hydian and the Perlemian, Brentaal was home to many shipping companies and also had a thriving criminal underworld and black market.

CAPTAIN CROSS CT-4947
Character background: CT-4947 was trained with all other Clone Troopers at the training facilities on Kamino. He quickly rose through the ranks for his proficiency in unarmed combat, as well as his surprising ability to adapt to new situations faster than his fellow trainees. He was drafted into the ARC program where he received his specialized training as a commando. During his training, Alpha-17 commented on a combination 4947 threw in a training match, and told him to add a right cross at the end. It stuck, and 4947 adopted Cross as his nickname. Cross worked on various missions during the clone wars, most notably as an escort for senators on diplomatic missions. He befriended Jedi Asana Sival during one of these missions, and afterwards she requested him on several covert operations. During these missions, he watched her and her Padawan during lightsaber training and asked for lessons. He proved a capable study, and though not force sensitive, learned to handle the weapon well. During a mission with Sival and Soma (her Padawan), Cross sustained a head injury. During this mission, Order 66 was initiated. The head injury damaged Cross's control chip, allowing him to ignore the Order. Instead of assassinating the Jedi with him, he defended them against the other clones and aided in their escape. He has been with them ever since.

Not all patch jobs were properly recorded in his repair logs, so no one knew what was done before, and EH-R0R has become autonomous and emotional.

KULL THORUS
Character Background: Kull doesn't talk much about his past, but one thing you have learned is that he has a strong hatred for a pirate named Reijax. The scum had killed an old Corillian spacer named Saul Malek, Kull's mentor and good friend. During the clone wars, Reijax ruthlessly preyed on both sides. The planet Ryloth had just been liberated from the Separtist and Saul wanted to check up on his family there, so he talked Kull into running humanitarian aid to the planet. By this point, Saul had retired and handed his ship over to Kull. Reijax hit them as soon as they dropped out of hyperspace. Saul and Kull had put up a good fight, but not good enough. Not satisfied with taking the cargo, Reijax wanted to teach Kull a lesson about defying him, so he spaced Saul, destroyed the ship's engines, and left Kull floating dead with no provisions. Kull survived a week until he was rescued.

SOMA DARHAL'RJU
Character background: Soma Darhal'Rju is actually Kaeleth Haa’faro, a Bothan Jedi padawan. She learned under the tutelage of Jedi Asana Sival and fought during the Clone Wars. She has become somewhat disillusioned with the Jedi way and is seeking her own way. Soma is not actually her true name. She has used this in her smuggling missions with her master. Her real name is Kaeleth Haa'faro. She has adopted this name to help hide her presence from Vader because he's hunting Jedi. She carries a blaster with her even though she isn't proficient with it. IN a pinch she can gain that proficiency but it's all about appearance as she tried to hide her nature. She's been working on learning field medicine to help stabilize people but it also acts as a cover for her force healing abilities. She carries a trauma kit with her.
The artisan tools she carries with her are artist tools. She learned to draw as a means of recording information from memory. Some of her teachers also encouraged her to use art as a form of meditation and to take joy from it, but she's still working on that because she still views it as a means to an end. Since the war and the loss of so many to it she has taken to trying to draw the people she remembers as a means of preserving them and trying to overcome the mental trauma of the experience. She recognizes that the anger and grief she is feeling about what has happened is dangerous and is trying to find a way to work through it. She particularly misses her master.
