Reputation- Known in Korvosa as being a street urchin who learned he was a lost son of House Laroung. Called "Lord Urchin" behind his back. Rumor is that he has been taken out of the street, but that the "street" can't be taken out of him.
Biography
Vandar was born the son of Inolda Hoat, the daughter of a middle class Korvosan merchant. The Hoat's had business dealings with House Laroung, leading to Lord Davalos Laroung encountering Inolda.
Davalos arranged for a reason for Inolda to visit the Laroung estate and when she refused his advances, he raped her. When he learned that she was pregnant, he tried his best to get the child. While he was able to get one son, he was unaware that Inolda had kept the twin, Joey, from him.
Inolda kept Vandar secret for a time, but in the end could not deal with a constant reminder of her shame.

2 - Vandar is abandoned on the streets of Korvosa. He is looked after by other street people and scrapes by a living.
5 - By the age of five, Vandar is a street urchin, living in the Shingles and other slum areas of the city.
10 - Vandar idolizes the gang lords and dreams of becoming one. Gaedran Lamm recruits him into his "Lambs," a gang of pickpockets who bring their earnings back to Gaedran. He is treated as no better than a slave. J
12 - His only connection with his past is a brooch with heraldry on it. He learns it is of House Laroung. He sneaks onto the estate and to his shock sees his twin Kaleper! Vandar is captured by the House Guards and brought before his father. Joey is welcomed into the family.
Gaedran approaches him later and demands he steal what he can from House Laroung and divert it to him.
Vandar learns that Davalos Laroung is a physician and a medical scientist. But he is cruelly detatched and is only interested in the "science," not in healing others. He is a cruel, emotionally detached man.
Kaleper Laroung , Vandar's twin lost his genitals in a battlefield injury, when he was travelling with his father to visit war victims. Pious to Sarenrae, he hopes that she will heal him, but he acts flippant, as if he doesn't have a care in the world.
Over the next year, anytime something comes missing, Vandar is suspected.
13 - Vandar is tutored by Comos Tankin, a priest of Pharasma. Vandar discovers that he can heal with a touch. This is seen as an opportunity by House Laroung, who sends Vandar to study live and study at the Cathedral to Pharasma.
Gaedran is furious of the development.
18 - Vandar is formally inducted into the Fateful Order of Pharasma.
21 - Vandar seeks to escape the pressures of warding off the undead in the Gray. He leaves Korvosa and travels north to Janderhoff, where he joins the household guard of Clan Adar.
Voris Adar is the head of the household and is the most renowned Dwarven stoneworker in Janderhoff.
21 - A rival clan attacks Clan Adar. Many household guards are killed, including the head of the guard. Vandar is thus promoted to head of the household guard.
25 - Vandar begins having an affair with Voris' wife, Raydra Adar. When she tells him that she is in love with him and wants to leave her husband, Vandar rejects her. In anger, she reveals the affair to her husband. Vandar flees Janderhoff and returns to Korvosa.
26 - Arriving in Korvosa, Vandar finds a note on a Tarot card. The card is The Paladin.
CONNECTION TO GAEDRAN
Was one of Lamm's Lambs, suffering a horrible childhood. When brought into House Laroung, Gaedran used him to steal from the noble house. Gaedran saw it as a betrayal when Vandar entered the Fateful Order of Pharasma. Gaedran sold his best friend Scott into slavery and imprisoned his mother. Vandar's father frees Scott from slavery.
